ISLAMABAD: Intermittent rain continues to lash the federal capital, with heavy water flow causing urban flooding in low-lying areas and vehicles swept away by overflowing streams in Saidpur Village.
The downpour intensified the flow of seasonal streams, causing multiple cars to be dragged into the water. Due to encroachments in Saidpur, drainage was blocked, leading to standing water in several residential zones.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for Islamabad and Rawalpindi, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 12 hours in the twin cities and the Potohar region.
The authority stated that rainfall could exceed 50mm, raising concerns over flash flooding and waterlogging in urban areas. Sanitation teams are actively working to clear drainage lines across the city.
This warning follows the devastating July 17 rains that caused severe flooding across Punjab. Rawalpindi received 230mm of rain in just 15 hours, while Chakwal witnessed a cloudburst, leading to 423mm of rain and the breach of a dam embankment.
According to NDMA’s earlier report, 178 people lost their lives, and 491 were injured between June 26 and July 17 due to the ongoing monsoon-related incidents across the country.
