Three dead, many trapped as five-storey building collapses in Karachi

A five-storey residential building collapsed on Friday in Karachi’s Lyari area, killing three people and trapping several others under the rubble. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and have so far pulled five injured individuals from the debris. Efforts to find and save those still trapped continue.

Rescue agencies, police, and Rangers quickly arrived at the site and began using heavy machinery to clear the wreckage. Local residents have also joined the rescue operations, helping to locate and assist those buried under the fallen building. The situation remains critical as teams work around the clock.

Eyewitnesses said multiple families lived in the building, which was already in poor and unsafe condition. This collapse raises concerns about the structural safety of older buildings in the area. Authorities have warned residents to avoid entering unstable buildings.

Officials have cordoned off the area to allow rescue teams to work without interruption. They also urged the public not to block roads or interfere with ongoing emergency operations. Cooperation is crucial to ensure quick and effective rescue work.

As rescue efforts continue, the community remains on alert and hopes for more survivors to be found. The tragedy highlights the urgent need for better building inspections and maintenance in Karachi’s densely populated neighborhoods.

Authorities have promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse. Meanwhile, they are focusing on providing relief and support to the families affected by this devastating incident.
