ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a strong increase in monsoon activity across the country from the evening of July 5. Widespread rain, thunderstorms, and possible flash floods are expected in many regions.
The Met Office reported that moist monsoon currents are steadily moving into Pakistan and will grow stronger over the weekend. Additionally, a westerly wave is predicted to approach northern areas on July 6, which will further boost rainfall.
From July 5 to 10, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in parts of Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Rawalakot. Northern areas such as Swat, Dir, Malakand, and Chitral will also experience similar wet conditions during this period.
Punjab and Islamabad will see widespread rain and thunderstorms with heavy showers expected in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan. Sindh and Balochistan regions may get moderate rain early in July, with heavier showers possible later in some parts.
Officials warned that heavy rains could trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas like Murree, Galliyat, Abbottabad, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Urban flooding may also affect low-lying zones in Islamabad, Lahore, and other major cities.
Authorities have been advised to stay alert and prepare for possible disruptions. Landslides and mudslides might block roads in hilly areas, while strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures. Precautions are necessary to protect lives and property during this rainy spell.
