Mahira Khan has once again shown that she’s not one to bend under pressure—whether it’s from ageist remarks, online criticism, or political bans. In a recent interview with Independent Urdu, the beloved Pakistani actor opened up about staying honest about her life and identity. She said she refuses to hide her age, marriage history, or the fact that she has a son, adding, “That is me. I want to remain truthful to myself.”
Khan explained how these values shape the work she accepts, saying she often declines roles she feels don’t fit her age. She said she wasn’t bothered by critics pointing out her fine lines or wrinkles, like in her latest film Love Guru. Her goal, she added, is to help normalize aging for future generations of women in the entertainment industry.
When asked about India’s ban on Pakistani celebrities’ social media, Mahira said she had “zero reactions.” She emphasized that such moves are political and don’t change her feelings for Indian fans. “Artists are soft power,” she said, adding that artists and their work are often the first casualties of political tension. Still, she believes in the unifying power of art and its ability to keep love alive across borders.
Regarding Love Guru, Mahira expressed gratitude for the film’s success but was quick to move on. She joked about filming in Times Square with co-star Humayun Saeed and teased their next movie—which might take another two decades. She revealed they were originally planning a deep love story before Love Guru happened. Currently, she’s reading two scripts and thinking about her next steps.
Mahira also shared updates on her other projects. She said she’s open to doing an action film and is in early talks for one. She wants people to watch Neelofar, a film close to her heart, made with passion. And she teased her role in Netflix’s Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, saying the character is unlike anything she’s done before and will surprise audiences.
