The federal government has approved the import of vehicles specifically for the defense sector. Sources from the Ministry of Commerce confirmed that the federal cabinet has allowed the import of used vehicles and vehicle chassis. This decision aims to support defense-related industries and improve operational efficiency.
According to the updated policy, only state-owned defense production companies and their fully commercial subsidiaries can import these vehicles. Additionally, companies registered under the Federal Board of Revenue’s Export Facilitation Scheme will also be permitted to bring in such vehicles for re-export or defense purposes.
The Ministry of Commerce has amended the Import Policy Order 2022 to include this new allowance. The move is designed to ease import restrictions and help defense organizations acquire necessary vehicles without facing heavy taxes or bureaucratic delays.
However, importing vehicles under this policy requires a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the defense production authorities and the Ministry of Interior. This step ensures all imports comply with security and regulatory standards.
This policy is expected to benefit the defense sector by streamlining the process of bringing in essential vehicles, supporting defense readiness, and potentially boosting related commercial activities in the country.
