WhatsApp has introduced a helpful new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that summarizes unread messages. This tool is designed for users who struggle to keep up with long or busy chats. It offers a simple, time-saving way to stay informed without scrolling endlessly.
According to tech reports, the AI-based feature can summarize both personal and group chats. It picks out the main points from messages that haven’t been read yet and displays them in short, easy-to-read lines. This way, users can quickly understand the context of a conversation.
Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, says the summaries are processed using a special technology called “Private Processing.” This ensures that no one—including Meta or WhatsApp staff—can read users’ messages or their summaries. The summaries are not saved, and the AI doesn’t learn from them.
Importantly, the feature is optional. Users can turn it on through the “Advanced Chat Privacy” settings. They can also choose which chats it applies to, giving them full control. It’s especially useful for professionals and students who receive lots of messages but don’t always have time to read them all.
Currently, the AI summaries feature is available only in the United States. However, Meta plans to expand it to more countries and languages by the end of 2025. The update shows WhatsApp’s growing focus on using AI to make messaging smarter and more efficient.
