Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to Gilgit-Baltistan during a meeting with Chief Minister Amjad Hussain. The discussions focused on regional affairs and development initiatives aimed at improving public welfare.
The prime minister congratulated Amjad Hussain on assuming office and pledged close cooperation with the newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan administration. He said the federal government remained committed to the region’s prosperity and sustainable development.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, development efforts will focus on renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. The government is also prioritising a 100-megawatt solar power project to meet local energy needs.
Moreover, Shehbaz announced plans to establish Daanish Schools and a Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre in Gilgit. The initiatives aim to improve educational opportunities and enhance the delivery of public services.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema also attended the meeting. The participants reviewed ongoing development priorities and future cooperation with the regional government.

Additionally, Amjad Hussain was sworn in as Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister on July 6 after the Pakistan Peoples Party secured the largest number of seats. The PPP formed the regional government with the support of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Therefore, the federal and regional governments are expected to coordinate closely on development projects across Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities say the planned initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure, improve public services, and support long-term economic growth.
