Iran being targeted with aggression, Pakistan’s stance is just: Nawaz Sharif

LONDON – Former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, has said that Pakistan’s official position on the escalating situation in Iran is “based on truth and justice,” adding that Iran is facing unjustified aggression and deserves diplomatic and moral support.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted in his honor in London, Nawaz Sharif emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran, citing religious, cultural, and geographic bonds. “Iran is not just our neighbor—it is a brotherly country with which we share centuries of religious and cultural history,” he stated.

He went on to praise the current government’s handling of both domestic and international affairs, saying, “The government is performing admirably at both the internal and global levels, especially regarding the Iran issue, where our stance is grounded in fairness.”

Touching on regional tensions, he asserted, “Pakistan has always defended itself against Indian aggression. Our military capability is for defense, not offense.”

In a show of unity, Nawaz Sharif remarked, “There is no difference between me and Shahbaz Sharif. It does not matter who is Prime Minister; we stand united.”

He also expressed appreciation for overseas supporters of the PML-N, calling them “an asset to the party”, and stressed the need for national cohesion during challenging times. “Given the current circumstances, everyone must work together for the country’s progress,” he said.

According to party sources, Nawaz Sharif is expected to return to Pakistan tomorrow after concluding his UK visit.
