China’s foreign ministry on Monday declined to comment on a recent report that labeled the country as having the fastest-growing nuclear arsenal. The spokesperson emphasized China’s long-standing policy of self-defense.
At a regular press briefing, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China maintains its nuclear weapons at the minimum level needed for national security. He added that China does not engage in an arms race with other countries. The report, published by a think tank, suggested that China is rapidly expanding its nuclear stockpile. However, China has consistently stated that its nuclear strategy focuses on defense rather than aggression.
Guo stressed that China’s nuclear force aims only to protect its sovereignty and ensure national security. He urged the international community to understand China’s position and avoid misunderstandings.
This statement comes amid growing global concerns about nuclear proliferation and security. Many countries are watching China’s military developments closely as tensions rise worldwide.
China reiterated its commitment to peaceful development and expressed hope for stable international relations, calling for dialogue over confrontation in handling security issues.
