Customs authorities at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport have confiscated one kilogram and 28 grams of gold jewelry, six diamond pieces, and five mobile phones from a passenger arriving from Dubai. The suspect had hidden these valuable items under his clothing in an attempt to smuggle them into Pakistan. According to customs officials, the action was taken following a tip-off received by Collector Customs, Taiba Kiani. The suspect, Asif, had traveled on Airblue International Flight No. 417-PA from Dubai to Lahore. Customs authorities intercepted him and successfully foiled his smuggling attempt. The total value of the seized items is estimated at approximately Rs32.2 million. The suspect was arrested on the spot, and all smuggled goods were confiscated by the authorities. A case has been registered against the suspect under the Customs Act, and an investigation has begun. Earlier during the day, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine into Pakistan at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. A Brazilian woman, arriving on a flight from Brazil, was arrested for attempting to smuggle 1.396 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her undergarments. According to ANF officials, the woman was subjected to a search after appearing suspicious during passenger clearance. Recently, Airport Security Forces (ASF) had also prevented an attempt to smuggle foreign currency at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, intercepting Rs17 million worth of currency intended for Dubai. The passenger, identified as Mohammad Ahmed Ilyas, was found carrying 225,000 UAE dirhams and Saudi riyals in his luggage.
