Ajoka Theatre’s Dosti International Theatre Festival concluded with a powerful finale featuring “Trunk Tales,” performed by the esteemed Indian group “The Company,” under the direction of Dr Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry. This marked the culmination of a vibrant nine-day celebration of Ajoka’s 40th anniversary, which brought together theatre groups from 12 countries to share their artistic expressions in Lahore. The final performance Trunk Tales, resonated deeply with the audience through its portrayal of themes such as loneliness, grief and resilience, blending real-life stories and fiction. The opening scene, with its moving trunk sound effects and expressive storytelling, immediately captivated the crowd. Social issues like water politics and food scarcity were depicted with impactful performances, leaving the audience reflective and engaged. Dr Neelam Mansingh expressed her heartfelt sentiments, she said that “Pakistan feels like my own home. The love and warmth I receive here are unmatched. Today, once again, you-the people of Punjab-have shown incredible hospitality.” She added, “This festival beautifully exemplifies the friendship between India and Pakistan. Art knows no borders, we are all Punjabis.” Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem thanked the participants and audience, saying, “We are honoured to host this festival celebrating the unifying power of theatre. The enthusiastic participation of diverse groups and the support of Lahore’s community have made this event unforgettable.” All foreign guests were presented with cultural Sindhi Ajraks. The festival also featured workshops, seminar, and cultural displays, enriching Lahore with a blend of global artistry. The closing ceremony included regional dances and a lively puppet show, accompanied by traditional dhol beats, delighting the attendees and concluding the festival on a celebratory note. Marking Ajoka’s 40th year, the Dosti Festival showcased theatre’s ability to transcend boundaries and promote unity, leaving audiences with a poignant reminder of shared humanity and resilience.
