HYDERABAD: US Consul General Grace W Shelton has appreciated the role of US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in Jamshoro for producing next generation leaders who would look after the sustainability issues and challenges faced by Pakistan in the water sector. She expressed these remarks while holding an interaction with exchange students and faculty of USPCAS-W who recently returned after spending one semester at University of Utah (UU) at USA, the centre spokesman informed here on Friday. She said that US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies (USPCAS) is one of its kind and prominent US Higher Education programmes in Pakistan, which will pave the way for applied research corridor in the country. Mehran University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili while speaking on the occasion said that USPCAS-W was a state-of-the-art and modern applied research centre in water sector of Pakistan which established with generous support by the United States Agency of International Development (USAID). He informed that Mehran University is first public sector university, which adopted the Gender Equity Policy after approval of concerned authorities. In this connection, he informed that a baby daycare centre, women resource centre and other facilities for women employees and girls students were established in MUET.
