ISLAMABAD: Major General Ahmed Jasim Maarij, head of Iraqi Navy, along with his personal staff officers called on Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, in his office on Monday. While speaking on the occasion, the minister offered Iraqi Armed Forces personnel to avail training courses in Pakistan Army’s training institutions. The minister for defence suggested port calls and passing exercise between the two navies in order to enhance inter-operability. He emphasised on the need of an on the job training programme in the field of hydrography and employment of Pakistan Navy survey officers for establishing a hydrographic set up in Iraq. Both the sides shared the importance of reciprocal visits by delegations from armed forces for training and logistic establishments. The minister also offered Pakistan Air Forces (PAF) services for the development of IT infrastructure of the Iraqi Air Force as well as assistance in establishing a quality control programme for the Iraqi Air Force on the pattern of PAF.
