Sir: The Sindh government, in the wake of the worsening water crisis in the province, is virtually doing nothing to either develop or improve the existing water supply system. The population of Sindh has since increased because of failed family planning policies, internal migration and internally displaced people from FATA, etc. The government must without delay start building more dams and barrages. Improvement in the irrigation system is long overdue to ensure an adequate supply of water to every arable part of the province. The existing deep wells (drilled) and hand pump installation projects should be extended to every rural community so that each one of them could have access to clean drinking water. Last but not the least, a canal for Tharparkar and Kachhi may also be built on modern lines so that no living being, people, animals, flora or fauna die of thirst. Hashim Abro Islamabad
