Nawaz picking flatterers over well-wishers: Nisar

Published on: May 5, 2018 6:08 PM

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) disgruntled leader Chaudhry Nisar on Saturday said that Nawaz Sharif is choosing flatterers over well-wishers who have worked in the party for years.

“When Nawaz was ousted, around 40-45 party members called upon me and wanted to part ways. I convinced them to stay. However, those who hurled curses against Nawaz have now become dutiful, while I am now regarded as bad for raising objections over party matters,” Nisar said while speaking to a press conference in Lahore.

He continued: “I want to tell Nawaz and the others that I have served the party for 34 years. Nawaz must listen to the truth and free himself from the pack of flatterers in the party.”

Nisar said that he was disappointed with the former PM’s statement that “he was not a visionary before, but now he is,” while he also asked Nawaz to reveal his ideology. “I hope it is not the ideology of Mehmood Achakzai,” he added.

Answering a question regarding speculations of him leaving PML-N and joining a certain “group”, the former interior minister said: “Those who want to know whether I will stay in PML-N or not must look at my past record. I have sided with Nawaz through thick and thin and will never disappoint the party. I will not join any group.”

He complained that he had advised the former PM to not take the Panama Papers case to the Supreme Court (SC) and that he had also opposed the ex-PM’s willingness to deliver speech pertaining the matter, “but Nawaz did not conduct a meeting despite promising to arrange twice to discuss the matters.”

The ex-interior minister also said that he had told Nawaz to not utter harsh remarks against the judiciary and the army, but “he did not listen.”
