The federal government has allocated Rs476 billion for green subsidies in the upcoming fiscal year, aiming to support environmentally friendly initiatives across key sectors including energy, agriculture, food, industry and transport. Officials said the plan is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable development and reduce pollution levels nationwide.
According to budget documents, the subsidies will be distributed under the Green Initiative project, which focuses on encouraging cleaner technologies and eco-friendly practices. The program is designed to help industries and public sectors transition toward greener operations while improving overall environmental performance.
The energy sector has received the largest share of funding under the scheme, with Rs423 billion allocated for green subsidies. Authorities said this investment targets cleaner energy production, improved efficiency and reduced reliance on environmentally harmful fuel sources.
Furthermore, the agricultural sector has been allocated Rs21 billion to promote sustainable farming practices and reduce pollution linked to traditional methods. The government believes this funding will help modernize agriculture while supporting environmentally responsible production systems.
In addition, the budget assigns Rs19 billion for the food sector, Rs8 billion for industry and Rs5 billion for transport, reflecting a wide-ranging approach to green development. Each sector is expected to adopt cleaner technologies and improve environmental standards under the subsidy framework.
Meanwhile, the document also directs all ministries to actively reduce environmental pollution as part of their operational responsibilities. Officials stated that the green subsidy plan will strengthen national efforts toward cleaner development while encouraging long-term sustainability across Pakistan’s economy.
