According to US officials, the suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, sent a message approximately 10 minutes before the incident on Saturday night. In the message, he reportedly apologised to his family and expressed anger toward officials associated with the Trump administration, indicating his intent to carry out the act.

The man accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner railed against Trump administration policies and referred to himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” in writings sent to family members minutes before the shooting, according to a law…

The shooting took place during an event attended by media and political figures, raising serious concerns about security arrangements. Investigators say the suspect’s communication suggested premeditation, with references to targeting specific individuals.

In his initial statement to police, the suspect also questioned the security measures at the venue, identified as the Washington Hilton. He claimed that security was primarily focused on external threats, such as protesters, and failed to adequately screen individuals already inside the premises.

The suspect alleged that he was able to bring multiple weapons into the building without detection, highlighting what he described as “overconfidence” in the security system. He further claimed that if a more dangerous actor had attempted a similar breach, the consequences could have been significantly worse.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect had legally purchased firearms, including two handguns and a shotgun, which he had stored at his family residence. Reports also indicate that he regularly practiced at shooting ranges prior to the incident.

The case has sparked renewed debate over event security protocols and the screening of individuals attending high-profile gatherings. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation, and formal charges against the suspect are expected as proceedings move forward.
