Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has predicted that Ramadan will likely complete 30 days this year. Officials say Eidul Fitr is expected to fall on March 21, based on current moon sighting data. The forecast impacts millions across Pakistan preparing for the religious festival.
Deputy Director Anjum Nazir said the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Islamabad on March 19. However, he stated that moon sighting on that date is scientifically impossible due to its young age. He explained that the moon will be only around 12 hours old at sunset.

He added that a moon typically needs to be over 14 hours old to be visible, even with a telescope. Therefore, the crescent will not be visible to the naked eye or optical instruments on March 19. This makes early Eid celebrations highly unlikely this year.
Based on these observations, officials expect Ramadan to complete 30 days, pushing Eidul Fitr to March 21. However, the final decision will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing testimonies and evidence. Authorities emphasized that official confirmation remains pending.
