Wang highlighted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have provided strategic guidance for bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of implementing the key consensus reached by the two leaders and expressed hope that 2026 would be a year of “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation” between the world’s two largest economies.

“Dialogue is better than confrontation, cooperation is better than conflict, and win-win outcomes are better than zero-sum games,” Wang said, underscoring the need for continued engagement and communication between Beijing and Washington.
The meeting comes as President Trump is expected to visit China in April, marking his first trip to the country during his second term. Observers say the dialogue between Wang and Rubio reflects ongoing efforts to maintain stability in economic, political, and security relations, following months of tension over trade and tariffs.
Earlier this year, Trump and Xi held a phone conversation, building on discussions from their October face-to-face meeting in South Korea. During that summit, Xi issued a warning over arms supplies to Taiwan, a sensitive issue that has periodically strained bilateral ties.
Rubio and Wang agreed to cooperate in various fields, including economic exchanges, regional security, and multilateral diplomacy, signaling a shift from confrontation toward dialogue and collaboration. Analysts note that as global economic and geopolitical pressures increase, both sides see value in avoiding escalatory conflicts and maintaining channels for crisis management.

The Munich meeting signals cautious optimism that China and the United States, despite past frictions, can stabilize relations and pursue mutually beneficial cooperation in the coming year.
