The movement, which emerged in early February 2026, is active across social media platforms including Reddit, Instagram, and a dedicated campaign website, encouraging users to delete the ChatGPT app and cancel paid subscriptions.

A key driver of the boycott is OpenAI president Greg Brockman’s political donations. Campaign finance filings reveal that he and his wife each contributed $12.5 million to former President Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., sparking backlash.
Critics also cite that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly uses ChatGPT-4 powered AI tools for resume screening, further fueling concerns about government involvement and ethical implications for marginalized communities.

While there is no confirmed data on the number of users who have cancelled subscriptions, experts note that large-scale consumer boycotts can influence corporate behavior if participation reaches critical mass.
