El Paso International Airport has grounded all flights due to a national security threat. The FAA defined the area as national defense airspace. Passengers, airlines, and regional communities are directly affected by the restriction.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the ban applies to all flights, including commercial, cargo, and private aircraft. The restriction started on February 10 at 11:30 PM and will remain until February 20 at 11:30 PM. Officials warned pilots that failing to comply could result in detention or deadly force.

Airport officials said the restriction was issued on short notice and includes nearby Santa Teresa, New Mexico. They added staff are in contact with the FAA and awaiting further guidance. Airlines operating out of El Paso are notifying passengers about canceled and rescheduled flights.
The FAA’s notice emphasized the United States Government may take deadly action against any aircraft posing an imminent security threat. Travelers are strongly encouraged to check with their airlines before heading to the airport. The agency has not disclosed the exact nature of the threat.
