A report published by Polish gaming outlet PPE, citing sources involved in physical video game distribution in Europe, suggests that publisher Take-Two Interactive is currently planning to launch GTA 6 exclusively as a digital release. The move is reportedly aimed at preventing story and gameplay leaks ahead of release, a recurring issue with major titles.

According to the report, Take-Two is not planning a physical edition of GTA 6 at launch, though this decision could change. Sources indicated that a boxed version may follow several weeks or months after the digital debut. However, conflicting information suggests the physical release could be delayed significantly, possibly until the first half of 2027.
“We’re hearing more and more that the physical version won’t be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks,” one source said, adding that timelines ranging from a few weeks post-launch to early 2027 are being discussed internally.
The possibility of a digital-only launch has disappointed many fans, particularly collectors eager to own a physical copy of the long-awaited return to Vice City. However, industry observers note that the decision could help Take-Two better control leaks and protect what is widely expected to be one of the largest entertainment launches ever.
The strategy could also boost early sales by steering players toward digital purchases at launch. Reports suggest further clarity may emerge by mid-February.

Despite the potential absence of a physical disc, a Collector’s Edition could still be released at launch, possibly featuring a digital download code and additional merchandise. However, collectors argue that the lack of a boxed game would significantly diminish its appeal.
