Supreme Court seeks Karisma Kapoor's response in Priya Kapur's plea for divorce records : Bollywood News - Bollywood Hungama

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to actor Karisma Kapoor in response to a petition seeking access to her divorce records with the late businessman Sunjay Kapur. The petition was filed by Priya Kapur, who claims to be Sunjay’s legally wedded wife and a legal heir to his estate.

Priya has sought certified copies of the Transfer Petition (Civil) No. 214 of 2016, which was filed during the divorce proceedings between Karisma and Sunjay. Her plea argues that the documents are necessary for succession proceedings currently underway before the Delhi High Court.

As part of the divorce settlement Karisma Kapoor received a ₹70 crore financial settlement plus ₹14 crore in bonds for Kian and Samaira. The bonds generate ₹10 lakh interest every month. She also got a Mumbai bungalow and all her wedding jewelry.

During Friday’s proceedings, the Supreme Court sought Karisma’s response and granted her two weeks to file a detailed reply. Karisma’s legal team strongly opposed the petition, calling it frivolous and an attempt to extract personal and confidential details for no valid legal reason.

According to legal representatives quoted by ANI, the petition was framed in a manner that sought to “unearth personal information” relating to the couple’s past marital dispute.

Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, also criticised the plea, calling it unnecessary and intrusive. She argued that if her brother had intended for the records to be public, he would have disclosed them during his lifetime. Calling the matter “sensitive,” she stressed that the privacy of the children involved should be respected.

In her application, Priya asserted that she married Sunjay on April 3, 2017, and that she is entitled to records relevant to succession and inheritance following his death on June 12, 2025.

The Supreme Court had previously heard Sunjay’s divorce transfer petition in April 2016, after the parties reached an amicable settlement. The court subsequently recorded detailed consent terms that concluded the matter. The case is expected to be taken up again after Karisma submits her written reply.
