Maryam Nawaz unveils major Lahore urban renewal project

Published on: June 7, 2026 7:21 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched an ambitious urban regeneration initiative aimed at upgrading some of Lahore’s busiest and most densely populated areas. The project focuses on improving public infrastructure, enhancing the city’s appearance and creating a more comfortable environment for residents, commuters and visitors.

As part of the plan, authorities will transform a three-kilometre radius surrounding Lahore Railway Station, one of the city’s most important transport hubs. Officials describe the initiative as a game-changing development that will modernise the area and improve connectivity while addressing long-standing urban challenges.

The project includes the construction and rehabilitation of footpaths, making pedestrian movement safer and more convenient. In addition, extensive landscaping and plantation activities will introduce new green spaces, helping improve the area’s visual appeal and creating a healthier urban environment.

Furthermore, dedicated seating areas will be established at key locations to provide comfort for travelers and local residents. The government also plans to install modern solar-powered lighting systems, which will enhance public safety, reduce energy costs and support environmentally sustainable development.

Officials believe the comprehensive upgrade will boost commercial activity, improve traffic management and encourage greater public use of urban spaces. The initiative is also expected to raise property values in surrounding neighborhoods while contributing to Lahore’s broader modernization and beautification efforts.

Moreover, the urban regeneration programme reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to improving civic infrastructure through long-term planning and smart development. By revitalising areas around Lahore Railway Station, authorities aim to create a cleaner, greener and more accessible city that meets the needs of a growing population.
