
ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Wednesday recommended the confirmation of six additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and extended the tenure of four others for another six months. The meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, took place at the Supreme Court and focused on evaluating the status of additional judges for permanent appointment.

By a majority vote, the JCP recommended the confirmation of Justice Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayaz, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Syed Mudasser Ameer and Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah as permanent judges of the PHC. The four judges whose terms were extended for six months include Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inamullah Khan, Justice Sabitullah Khan and Justice Aurangzeb.

PTI representatives Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, along with KP Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi, did not attend the sitting. The commission is scheduled to reconvene on Thursday to consider the confirmation of 13 additional judges of the Lahore High Court.
In a parallel development, Chief Justice Afridi, in his capacity as president of the advisory board of the Al-Mizan Foundation, presided over a high-level review of ongoing welfare initiatives. Established in 1995, the foundation supports serving and retired judicial officers, court staff and dependants of deceased beneficiaries.
The meeting reviewed governance, financial sustainability and policy alignment of the institution’s welfare mandate, with particular attention to health, education and employee facilitation services. Discussions also covered asset management, contractual and taxation matters to ensure long-term institutional viability.

CJ Afridi commended retired Justice Mushir Alam, who leads the foundation’s administration committee, for strengthening its institutional coherence and governance framework. He also appreciated the contributions of incumbent secretary Zia-ur-Rehman for demonstrating administrative competence and reform-oriented stewardship.
