Wheat Seed Supply Boosts Provincial Sowing Drive

Wheat Seed Supply Boosts Provincial Sowing Drive

The wheat sowing campaign is progressing rapidly across Pakistan. All provinces have received sufficient wheat seed for their Rabi season targets. The Ministry of National Food Security confirmed delivery of 168,000 tonnes from private suppliers and 196,000 tonnes from the Punjab Seed Corporation. Provinces now have the resources to meet their cultivation goals efficiently.

Punjab leads with 12.5 million acres sown out of 16.5 million targeted. Early sowing followed post-flood land availability and strong incentives from seed subsidies. Farmers are responding well to the National Wheat Policy price of Rs3,500 per 40kg bag. Certified seed usage has improved by 100 percent due to collaboration with private companies and government support.

Sindh has sown 533,000 hectares so far, marking the peak sowing period. The province expects to reach 85 percent of its target by the end of November. Certified seed availability remains good, and farmers continue active sowing. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has achieved 59 percent progress on its 781,000-hectare target. Sowing in rice and sugarcane areas is slower but will likely accelerate as temperatures remain favorable.

Balochistan faces slower progress due to limited canal irrigation, but tube-well areas are performing steadily. Of 643,000 hectares targeted, about 85,000 hectares have been sown. The Nasirabad division is expected to accelerate sowing soon after rice harvests. The ministry is also mapping storage facilities to plan for better seed and grain management in the future.

The government aims to meet wheat sowing targets by November-end. Provinces are working efficiently with improved seed availability and farmer participation. Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan continue sowing actively. Monitoring and support from the ministry ensure smooth seed distribution. Wheat sowing momentum is expected to sustain, securing the upcoming harvest.
