
A protest by a religious group in Muridke ended in deadly violence on Monday. Clashes broke out when law enforcement began clearing the area. Protesters responded with stone-pelting, petrol bombs, and heavy gunfire. Police acted in self-defense using limited force. The situation quickly turned violent and chaotic.
According to Punjab Police, an SHO was killed and 48 officers were injured. Three protesters and one passerby also lost their lives. Authorities confirmed eight more people were injured during the clashes. Protesters also torched 40 vehicles, including police and private cars. Police detained several suspects and launched a search operation.

Traffic was severely disrupted across Lahore due to security measures. Major roads such as Thokar Niaz Baig, Chungi Amar Sidhu, and Manga Mandi were closed. Motorways M2, M3, and M11 were also shut for both directions. Punjab Safe Cities Authority issued alerts and urged the public to avoid affected areas.
Due to the unrest, Punjab University postponed today’s exams. However, LLB exams will continue as scheduled from October 14. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and working to restore normalcy. Citizens were advised to stay calm and avoid spreading rumors.
Although the sit-in has ended, tensions remain high in parts of Punjab. Police are still conducting raids and investigations. Officials promised strict action against those involved in violence. The government called for cooperation and warned against any illegal gatherings. Calm is returning, but security remains on alert.
