Pakistan railways plans new shuttle train for Lahore, Kasur and Pakpattan

Published on: October 7, 2025 10:45 PM

Pakistan Railways is planning to launch a new shuttle train service connecting Lahore, Kasur, and Pakpattan to enhance regional connectivity and provide passengers with faster, more affordable transportation. The initiative is part of the department’s broader efforts to improve railway infrastructure and strengthen public mobility within Punjab’s central and southern districts.

The project aims to benefit daily commuters, traders, and students who frequently travel between these cities for work, education, and business. Once approved, the shuttle service will offer a cost-effective and time-saving alternative to road travel, helping thousands of passengers avoid long traffic jams and rising fuel costs. Moreover, it will make intercity movement smoother and more sustainable.

Officials said the feasibility report for the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle project has been completed and submitted for review. The report thoroughly examines technical, financial, and operational aspects, including track conditions, passenger demand, and estimated maintenance expenses. The assessment also identifies ways to optimize schedules, improve station facilities, and ensure smooth operations once the service begins.

Furthermore, the new route is expected to revive smaller railway stations along the corridor, bringing economic activity and development opportunities to nearby areas. By reducing road congestion and fuel consumption, the project will also contribute to environmental sustainability and better traffic flow between the connected districts. These improvements are likely to make train travel a preferred choice for short-distance commuters.

Railway authorities have expressed optimism about the proposed shuttle train, stating that it aligns with the government’s vision of modernizing the transport sector. They believe the project will enhance connectivity across Punjab, boost local trade, and make travel more accessible for people in both urban and rural communities. Once approved, construction and operational planning will begin to make the service available as soon as possible.
