Pakistan seeks global partners for mineral development

Published on: October 1, 2025 11:03 PM

Pakistan has intensified efforts to attract international partners in its mining sector, with officials highlighting the country’s vast reserves of copper, gold, and rare earth elements. In a recent meeting with outgoing Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik stressed Pakistan’s growing potential to emerge as a major global resource supplier. The discussions underscored opportunities for collaboration in mineral exploration and development, as Pakistan seeks to unlock untapped reserves to strengthen its economy.

During the engagement, Hawkins noted that several Australian subcontractors are already involved in Balochistan’s mineral sector, reflecting the strong interest of Australian companies in Pakistan’s natural wealth. He reiterated Australia’s willingness to expand cooperation and recognized the strategic importance of Pakistan’s resources for international markets. Malik, in turn, praised Hawkins for his contributions to bilateral ties and expressed hope that the High Commissioner would depart with enduring positive memories of his diplomatic tenure.

In a separate meeting, Malik also engaged with a Finnish delegation led by Ambassador Hannu Ripatti and Metso’s President of Minerals, Piia Karhu. The minister highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing transition toward modern and mechanized mining practices, stressing the importance of responsible extraction methods that align with international environmental and safety standards. He assured the delegation that the government is committed to building a stable and investor-friendly climate to facilitate foreign collaboration.

Furthermore, Malik emphasized the critical role of skilled human capital in advancing the mining sector’s growth. He pointed out that training and developing local talent will not only fuel domestic prosperity but also contribute to the global workforce. This approach, he said, would ensure that Pakistan’s mineral sector evolves sustainably while offering opportunities for innovation and technological exchange.
