Pakistan, India face off in historic Asia cup final

Published on: September 28, 2025 12:16 PM

Pakistan and India will lock horns today in Dubai in what is being described as a historic clash, as it marks the first-ever Asia Cup final between the two arch-rivals in the tournament’s 41-year history. The high-voltage showdown is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm local time, with millions of fans across the world eagerly awaiting this rare title-decider.

Although India has already defeated Pakistan twice earlier in the competition, the final is expected to present an entirely different challenge. With the stakes higher than ever, players from both sides are under immense pressure to deliver. For Pakistan, hopes rest on key performers like Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan, and Saim Ayub, while the leadership of skipper Salman Ali Agha remains under sharp focus.

Pakistan booked their place in the final after a hard-fought 11-run victory over Bangladesh in the Super Four stage, effectively serving as a semi-final. In contrast, India’s road to the finale came through a dramatic tie against Sri Lanka, which ended with a tense Super Over. India successfully chased a modest three-run target in one ball, securing their ticket to Dubai’s grand showdown.

Addressing a pre-match press conference, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha expressed full confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion. He stated that Pakistan had learned from earlier mistakes and saved their best performance for the final. Stressing the spirit of the rivalry, he noted that matches between Pakistan and India always carry intensity, but sportsmanship and respect remain constant.

Meanwhile, ticket demand for the final has skyrocketed, reflecting the extraordinary excitement surrounding the game. Prices began at 350 dirhams for standard seats and climbed to as high as 11,000 dirhams for premium hospitality passes. The staggering rates highlight not only the commercial value of the match but also the deep passion and anticipation of fans eager to witness cricket’s greatest rivalry on the grandest stage.

As the two sides prepare to clash, the significance of the contest stretches far beyond silverware. Pakistan and India have previously met in five tournament finals across formats, with Pakistan leading that rivalry 3-2. However, this first-ever Asia Cup final encounter between the nations promises to be an iconic battle, one that will be etched in cricketing history regardless of the outcome.
