Jalalpur Pirwala surrounded by floods, thousands evacuated

Published on: September 11, 2025 3:22 PM

Jalalpur Pirwala, a tehsil of Multan, has been surrounded by floodwaters from all sides. In response, emergency evacuation efforts are ongoing. Authorities have launched a large-scale rescue operation to relocate people from the affected areas.

Since early morning, rescue teams have been operating at the 86-M embankment, a critical area near Jalalpur Pirwala. Senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb is supervising relief operations. She has personally used loudspeakers to urge people to evacuate. The temporary embankment protecting the town is under constant pressure from rising water levels.

To reduce water flow toward the city, officials breached the Uch Sharif Road last night. However, floodwater has still entered nearby villages including Basti Lang, Basti Kanho, and Bahadurpur. Shops and markets in Jalalpur Pirwala remain closed, and people are being moved from the villages expected to flood next.

According to CPO Multan, 90% of Jalalpur’s surrounding areas are now submerged. The central rescue camp in the city has also been flooded. In addition, water from the Sutlej River has entered villages like Towali, Khanowali, and Basti Jamwala, with operations continuing in areas around Ahmedpur Sharqia.

Meanwhile, the Chenab River is experiencing an extremely high flood at Head Panjnad, affecting several more villages in Alipur Tehsil. In Muzaffargarh’s Sitpur town, most areas are underwater, and there is a shortage of food, medicine, and clean water. Thousands remain stranded across affected regions, as rescue teams work day and night to save lives.
