In a first-of-its-kind event, Pakistan’s National Highway Authority (NHA) successfully conducted the country’s inaugural public auction of 68 toll plazas. This milestone move opens new business opportunities for investors across the nation.
The auction took place at Islamabad’s Jinnah Convention Centre under the guidance of Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan. He stressed the importance of a transparent process that benefits investors and supports national infrastructure growth.
To ensure fairness, the NHA invited media representatives from print and electronic outlets to observe the auction. A strong publicity campaign was also run beforehand to keep the public fully informed about the event.
The toll plazas auctioned include some of the busiest on Pakistan’s highways. Notable ones were Jamshoro, Saeedabad, Moro, Kandiaro, Ranipur, Rohri, Sadiqabad, and Ahmedpur East, among others, covering key transport routes.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan praised NHA officials for executing the auction efficiently. He expressed confidence that this initiative will boost infrastructure development and create significant business prospects throughout the country.
With this auction, Pakistan takes a major step towards involving the private sector in highway management, aiming to improve road services and generate revenue for further national projects.
