ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner to lodge a protest against unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian security forces in Harpal Sector. A Pakistani civilian, Muhammad Sharif, was killed due to the Indian firing, a Foreign Office statement read. Indian security forces also resorted to unprovoked firing in Jandrot, Nikhial and Karela sectors, due to which another civilian embraced shahadat, while four were injured. Director General (South Asia and SAARC) conveyed to the Indian deputy high commissioner Pakistan’s concern over “the continuous unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian security forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary”. “Pakistan urged India to immediately stop the violations and observe the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding,” the statement read further. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit said Islamabad is very concerned about the recent ceasefire violations by Indian forces along the Line of Control and working boundary. “There have been 70 ceasefire violations from this [the Indian] side of the Working Boundary during July and August. We are obviously very concerned about that,” Basit, who was summoned by India’s External Affairs Ministry earlier in the day, told reporters in India’s capital New Delhi.
