RAWALPINDI: Punjab government has released Rs 20 million for the construction of Shahbaz Sharif Park and Sports Complex in Rawalpindi. A cricket stadium, a badminton court, a foot ball ground and a family hall would be part of this park which is being built on 100 kanal at a cost of Rs100 million. Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will jointly execute the work on project. According to the sources, PHA while describing the existing five nurseries insufficient to cater to needs of 43 public parks, roads and intersections has proposed for setting up a central nursery and sought Rs 10 million from the provincial government. PHA Director General (DG) Abid Malik said that five nurseries are located in Nawaz Sharif Park, Liaqat Bagh, Serajia Park, Dosehri Park and Children’s Park which are insufficient to meet the needs for saplings to be planted in parks, roads and crossings annually. He said, “A proposal has been forwarded to Punjab government seeking Rs 10 million to set up a central nursery”. He said the work on the construction of boundary wall and installation of gates of the park is underway under the supervision of RDA Building Department adding that a football ground would also be constructed as part of the park.
