KARACHI: Home Minister Sindh bypassing the office of IGP has issued directives to gear up the operations against criminals and sought daily police report from all police officers including Additional Inspector General. The Home Minister Sindh Sohail Anwar Khan Sial has issued directives on Sunday to all range DIGs of the province including Additional IG Karachi to immediately gear up drive against absconders and proclaimed offenders. He also directed to expedite efforts against drug dens, narcotics sellers and smuggling of petrol from Iran and groups/ individuals involved. Sial has also directed police to submit performance report in this regard on daily basis. He warned that negligence and slackness would not be tolerated at any cost. In the directives issued to police he did not mention Inspector General Sindh Police. A senior police officer said that bypassing IGP office is tantamount to damaging the chain of command of the police force in the province. “If Sindh Government does not like the IG they should change him but these kind of measures can create disciplinary problem in the police force that could have far reaching impacts” he further added. It is pertinent to mention that the rift between IGP Sindh AD Khawaja and provincial government continues to widen due to various issues and SHC has granted IGP stay order.
