BEIJING: Bayern Munich forward James Rodriguez said on Friday that he aims to reach the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in near future. The 26-year-old, who recently completed a two-year loan move to Munich from European and Spanish champions Real Madrid, said that he is looking forward to improve as a footballer and hopes that future brings big things. “Will I like to reach Messi and Ronaldo’s level? Why not? They are big players. I’ll be ready for what happens in the future and improve in world football,” said James. James, who struggled to make his mark on Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid and had his best moments at the club under former coach Carlo Ancelotti, believes that competition at Bayern is equally as tough but is looking forward to work hard and establish himself as a front runner at the Allianz. “We have big players at Bayern and the competition for the team is very intense. I have to win my place through training hard every day. I want more minutes and more success than last season,” the Colombian added. The 26-year-old also highlighted the expectations surrounding the club, saying that winning trophies is considered an obligation. “It’s a unique club, with the obligation of winning trophies and I hope it continues next season,” he said. Bayern Munich continue their pre-season against Italy’s AC Milan on Saturday, as they look to return to winning ways after defeat against Arsenal on penalties last Wednesday.
