RAWALPINDI: Army Chief Raheel Sharif said on Sunday the nexus of terrorists, their abettors, sympathisers and financiers would be broken at all costs and the ongoing operation in Karachi would be taken to its logical conclusion. During his visit to the Karachi Corps Headquarters, the army chief said, “The ongoing operation has brought about a noticeable improvement in the law and order situation in Karachi. As we progress to target the crime and terror syndicate network, we need to keep our focus on actionable human and technical intelligence and totally dismantle their support structure. Operation has now entered a phase where terrorists and their abettors are badly bruised, isolated and hence will go for softer targets so as to find their survival and undermine the society psychologically.” Interior Minster Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, National Security Adviser Lt-Gen (Retd) Nasser Janjua, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial, Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar and Karachi Corps Commander Naveed Mukhtar attended the meeting where they were briefed in detail about the security situation and various aspects of the ongoing operation against terrorists and criminals and their network in Karachi. At the meeting, the army chief directed to the authorities concerned to hunt down the terrorists and pre-empt their plans to frustrate their designs. “We must continue our mission unabated to consolidate and not let anyone reverse our gains,” a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations quoted the army chief as saying. He urged all stakeholders to make earnest efforts to root out terrorism from the country. He exhorted all commanders, including those of security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies, to continue working hand in glove and leave no stone unturned for restoration of total peace in the city. Measures to build the capacity of other law enforcers for a lasting peace in Karachi were also discussed. The director general of the Sindh Rangers briefed the army chief in detail about the ongoing operation, the prevailing security situation in the city and the way forward. The army chief commended the sacrifices and achievements made by the Sindh Rangers. He said that all assistance, intelligence and material combat support, would be provided to the Rangers to accomplish the mission in Karachi. Talking to the troops, the army chief said that determination, courage and resolve of the Sindh Rangers to rid the city of terrorists and criminals earned them a huge respect in Karachi.
