SAD—Social Anxiety Disorder

Published on: January 14, 2020 12:33 AM

People these days talk too much about the disorder of the society, but they don’t discuss the disorder of their mental mechanism as they consider it a taboo or something which is not significant to talk about. Scientifically, disorder is a state of being confused or when something goes out of order that let it convert from its original and natural state to an abnormal one.

Most of the time, when people sit in a gathering or in a group of every 5 people, every 3 of them used to say that they are feeling sad or they are facing anxiety, but hardly a few of them know the actual meaning of these words.

As these two terminologies are interlinked with each other, the word sad refers to “Social Anxiety Disorder” which is also known as “Social Phobia”. This can be defined as a significant amount of fear we feel in different social situations going on around us and that fear, distress or hesitation do not allow some functions of our brain to work properly in our daily life routine affairs. As we all know the fact that our brain works as a CPU of a computer without which systems of computer can neither be able to work nor to take a start. In the same manner, without taking order or signal from the brain not a single function of the body can work or move and when we don’t possess a healthy normal neuro-system, we cannot achieve our body fitness goals and even loss our confidence for doing anything in life.

Stage fright is also a significant form of social awkwardness which is a mental health disorder itself. The main determinant of social disorder is the fear of being watched, judged, humiliated, rejected or embarrassed by others which can be encountered by people at homes, schools, work places, restaurants, shopping malls, stores and even at public washrooms. One may confront such fright while playing sports, in the course of giving speech in front of a massive audience, throughout playing any musical instrument or even during a journey with strangers in a bus or cab. Misreading others behavior by taking wrong hints while looking at their various body gestures which are performed by them to express their ideas may play a vital role in causing social anxiety.

PTSD which stands for “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” is also one of the most hazardous form of disorder of human mind. It happens to a person when some unexpected or unpredictable incident happens in his life which cannot be endured by his mental level of brain and due to such deep negative impact on mind, that individual would not be able to move on further with his life in a normal condition.

One of the main concerns about social anxiety which are recently in trending has been transpired with a high rate of prominence of social media use. People are going complexed by watching others status on social media websites related to having a fun time with their peers and family or may be about buying an iPhone which cannot be afforded by them. When they get a very less attention due to the exposure of their boring life or when they don’t have anything interesting to show to others on social media, then they are avoided by others which has become one of the prime source of making people shun or depressed from inside.

Anxiety is basically a feeling of being unease, uncomfortable or unconfident about something with an uncertain outcome. Such fear mostly leads to symptoms such as blushing, sweating, tremble, a rapid heart rate, mind going blank, some sort of emptiness in stomach, rapid body posture, a little eye contact, shivered voice, no sleep or less sleeping time and even being self-conscious about something which can demolish a person’s complete personality within no time.

By a research report of 2017, in overall population of Pakistan, 1 in every 10 people suffers major mental health issues. However, now when we look at the growing problems of people’s life with a massive increase in the population growth, it can be estimated that out of every 10 individuals around 9 resist such issues every day which is not a positive sign for future predictions about humans and humanity of our country. The major reason behind the fact is that the people of our society tend to end the pain either by destructing their lives by taking heavy drug doses or even by killing their selves, but they never try to end their pain by coping up with the deadly depression. The world is changing day by day and every part and parcel of it tends to develop itself in a productive manner and even taboos are also being changed by the change of time. However, different societies and different cultures possess their own special circumstances when it comes to taboos. But, depression is considered as the most extensive taboo in all which doesn’t get a little significance to discuss almost in every society and every country of the world.

There are various steps which can be taken to deal with depression which firstly includes the consultation of a doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, clinical social worker or any counselor and later on people can go for the intake of anti-anxiety, anti-depressant and beta blocker medications after further recommendations by their consultants to make their mental condition stable.

However, the one and only key measure which should be done by the one who’s facing such concerns is to proceed for “Psychotherapy”, in other words “Talk-Therapy”. Social anxiety disorder is not a disease itself, but the actual abnormality is to not talk about the issues which are necessary to discuss and to be solved. A little attention and care can be helpful in dealing with depression and whether it may reach the worst level of mental health, it can be easily cured if taken on a serious note.
