A two-day national workshop on bioinformatics focussing on introducing latest developments, trends and software for generating more accurate and reliable DNA database to all academic and research levels opened at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) the other day. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik was the chief guest of the opening session of the workshop. Bioinformatics is an important discipline in molecular biology and applies computational techniques to analyse and catalogue complex biological information in large data sets. The resource persons of the two-day workshop are Dr Usman Ali Ashfaq, Dr Mahmoodur Rehman Ansari, Dr Faisal Noroz, Dr Khalid Hussain and Maria Nawaz. The experts will highlight the innovative and commercial aspects as well as various implications of bioinformatics in cataloguing genetic and hereditary tends for producing drugs to treat various conditions. The opening session of the workshop was attended by, in addition to a large number of students, Chairperson Department of Botany Dr Adil Rashid, chief organizer of the workshop Dr Khizar Hayat Bhatti, senior administration officials and heads of department.
