The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is being played in the UK which is known for its rainy days. Ahead of the main tournament, Pakistan’s warm-up match against Bangladesh was rained out leading many to ask what happens if a match cannot be played. There are no reserve days for league matches, which means if a match cannot be played both teams would get a point each. This won’t be the case for the semi-finals and final, with all three matches having reserve days. If the semi-finals and final are stopped during play, the match would continue from the same spot the next day. If there is a tie in the semi-final, the outcome of the match would be decided by a super over. If for some reason the semi-final cannot be played, then the team which was ranked higher in league play would proceed to the final. There will also be a super over in the final in case of a tie. However, if the match cannot be played or is left incomplete then both teams would be crowned champions.
Rain policy for ticket holders: According to the ICC’s official World Coup website, if play is restricted or does not take place at the Venue on the day for which a Ticket is valid, including any Reserve Day, the Ticket purchaser may claim a refund of the Original Sale Price of that Ticket (excluding fees) subject to there being: (a) 15 overs or less because of adverse weather conditions – a full refund; (b) 15.1 overs to 29.5 overs because of adverse weather conditions – a 50% refund. In no other circumstances can money be refunded. Details on how to claim a refund will be provided to qualifying spectators during the Tournament.
