Conflict between CDA and land grabbers takes a new turna

Published on: December 22, 2016 5:08 AM

ISLAMABAD: The conflict between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the land grabbers has taken a new turn as the influential land mafia has got the transfer orders of the officer of the civic body from the Prime Minister’s House, who retrieved back the precious land from the clutches of the encroachers.

The sources told Daily Times that the former Member Admin CDA, Suleman Waraich, was removed from his post and Yasir Pirzada was posted on his place. The former Member Admin who played an active role in the drive against encroachments with standing shoulder to shoulder with the Mayor Islamabad and the Chairman CDA Ansar Aziz Sheikh. He repossessed the precious state land which was grabbed by the nursery owners for the last many years. Some two weeks ago he supervised a operation of the CDA in which the land of market value of some Rs 4 billion was recovered by the civic agency, where grabbers had established the nurseries.

Similarly the CDA, in another operation, took back the land from the land mafia and a road was widened under the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station.

Due to this station the dwellers of the vicinity not only lauded the CDA’s efforts but also took a sigh of relief.

The continuous operations against encroachments conducted under Waraich’s supervision had confused the land mafia and they began to run here and there to find some influence at the top level and at last they got access to the PM’s House.

When he got hands at the plots, Rs 20 billion were confiscated by the Telecom Sector in the area of I-9 of the federal capital. The mayor ordered the ex Member Admn to get the land vacated and seal all the offices and he did so , which also disturbed the IT ministry.

The sources said that Suleman Warsich was also holding enquiries against the irregularities in C-15 sector and construction of extra floors at yjr Safa Gold Mall and in this way , he was confronting the powerful land mafia. The sources also said that he was removed from the post of Member Admn CDA on the orders of the Prime Minister’s House in haste so that the citizens could not realise their dream to see an encroachment free Islamabad. It is also known that the Mayor Islamabad had devised a plan to lay his hands on the powerful political leadership which grabbed public land in diffferent sectors of the federal capital and its suburbs including Bani Gala, Shah Allah Dita and Bara Kahu through his honest Member Admn. But before the political figures could be exposed, the powerful land mafia acted against the officer.

The sources said that the Mayor Islamabad was making preparations to give a briefing to the PM for retrieving back the state land from prominent political leaders, private housing societies and government functionaries. It is a common perception in the CDA that after removing the Member Admn, one hand of the Mayor has been cut off, while on the other hand the Mayor has reiterated his stance that he would never bow down in front of the powerful land mafia and would take the war against them to its logical conclusion.

When this reporter contacted the spokesman CDA, Malik Mazhar, another person Kamran attended the phone who told this scribe that it was not possible to talk with him at that time as he was busy in the meeting with the Chairman CDA.
