Kalat’s Meeri Fort is an ancient site located in Turbat which is about 5,000 years old. By some historiographers, it is proved that it was the palace of a king and they found gold, diamonds and other valuable things inside the port. The ancient Balochi love story’s hero Punnhun is said to be the owner of this ancient port, but presently, the port is thoroughly neglected by the people and the government. Neither is the port mentioned in textbooks, neither is it repaired or reconstructed by the local government. We read about other ports of the state in social studies, but why not the port that belongs to our actual soil? The government of Balochistan needs to promote ancient sites like Mehrgarh, Kalat Port, Tump Port, Bet-e-Qalat and the Meeri Fort and ensure that special mention is given to them in textbooks so that children get to know of Pakistan’s rich history.
