When Nadia Khan did rom-com serials back in the 90s, we formed an image of her as someone jolly and full of humour. When she made her comeback in tragic serials, we started thinking of her as a woman having undergone great trials. Such is the power of her versatile acting. This time Khan is giving us another surprise, for she has taken up a negative role in the new drama serial, ‘Kam Zarf’. While talking to Daily Times, Khan said that initially she was hesitant about the role because according to her, negative or ‘evil’ characters do not go with her personality. “The director and producer convinced me later on that it is not a purely negative character but a negative yet pitiable character, which will also give margin to the viewers to reflect upon why the character is evil,” she added. Khan says initially she was hesitant about taking on the role because negative or ‘evil’ characters do not go with her personality According to the actress, grey-shaded characters are seldom found in Pakistani dramas but her character in this serial is such that people will be able to sympathise with it despite evil characteristics. “It’s a character that will render the drama a family story as well as entertainment. Entertainment is something that is desired by our audience. ‘Kam Zarf’ will provide them everything; an enjoyable story, amazing dialogues, good acting -all of which has been the essence of our drama serials.” We are super-excited to see how this evil role of Nadia Khan turns out. It is hoped that like all her other characters, this too will form an imprint on our minds and might incline us to consider the amazing Nadia as a person with a dark side as well. That depends on how Khan, who has never done a negative role before, has taken up this challenge. Published in Daily Times, January 9th 2019.
