A plan was announced by the Sindh Transport Department to install trackers in all new and old motorcycles of the province. The department has sent a summary of the program to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah pending approval, since it requires an amendment in the Motor Vehicles Bill, which will be proposed in the Sindh assembly. Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Awais Qadir Shah said that while motorists driving without trackers will be penalized the primary responsibility for installing the trackers will be on the companies and the showroom owners, furthermore the excise department will only register motorcycles with trackers installed. The step was taken to curb motorcycle theft in the province which is becoming an increasingly common street crime. Published in Daily Times, December 6th 2018.
