AGHS Legal Aid Cell, Asma Jahangir’s Law Firm, in collaboration with the Supreme Court Bar Association, will organise the first Asma Jahangir Conference 2018 (AJCONF2018) under the theme “Justice for Empowerment” on October 13-14 at Avari Hotel in Lahore. The two day conference aims to remember the legacy of late Asma Jahangir, with panel discussions on fundamental rights, independence of the judiciary, empowerment of women, cyber laws, freedom of expression, and regional solidarity. The conference will be attended by renowned international legal experts, members of senior judiciary, senior lawyers, policy makers, media and representatives of political parties. Some of the guests include Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, current and former presidents of the Supreme Court and Lahore High Court Bar Associations, Australian jurist, academic and former judge of the High Court of Australia Michael Kirby, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Chairperson PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari, former speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, wedish Ambassador-at-large for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law HE Annika Ben David, Steven Butler from the Committee to Protect Journalists and Ms Kirsty Brimelow QC, Chair of the Bar Human Rights Committee in England.
