Sir: water is something we need in our daily life. Earth is known as the blue planet. Seas and oceans hold 97 percent of all the water, of which only three percent is fresh water. Why water is treated as something precious when we have so much of it? This is because sea water is salty and it cannot be used for agriculture or drinking. The world’s population is 7 billion and three percent is not enough for our use. We are wasting water every day for example while brushing our teeth, we leave the tap open and a lot of water is wasted this way. When taking a bath, we leave the shower on, which again wastes a lot of water. Same is the example of washing cars, and countless other ways we waste water. If we keep this up we’ll soon run of water, and it is important to save water for our own later use. However, to save water, our government and people have to work together. There certain steps that can be taken to save water. These include building more dams, turning off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving, checking leakages from pipes every day, using a bucket instead of a hose to wash your car, not taking too long showers or using a bucket instead, and many more. If we adopt some of these small steps in to our daily routine, then we can help save a lot of water for future generations. MAHNUR HASNAIN Lahore Published in Daily Times, August 11th 2018.
