ISLAMABAD: Accountability court on Tuesday resumed hearing of defense counsel’s final arguments in Avenfield reference.
Earlier on Monday, lead defense counsel Khawaja Haris had hinted to conclude his final arguments by Tuesday.
Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir chairing National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) supplementary references heard the proceedings in the absence of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
During the hearing Haris argued that prosecution star witness and former Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head had claimed that Nawaz Sharif is the owner of London properties.
However, Haris asserted that the prosecution had failed to prove Nawaz’s ownership of the Avenfield properties or that he was a beneficial owner.
Haris responding to NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi objection over defense counsel’s prolonged arguments, said that he will soon be conclusing the arguments.
Earlier on Monday, Haris had filed another exemption plea from court appearances for Nawaz and Maryam owing to Kulsoom Nawaz’s unstable condition.
Judge Bashir had granted an exemption for three more days.
Nawaz and family are under trial for corruption, money laundering and tax evasion in NAB’s supplementary corruption references.
