LAHORE: Parents Action Committee, an organisation working against high-fee charging of private schools, on Monday protested Faisal Mushtaq’s appointment as the Education Minister of Punjab. According to a PAC statement, Faisal Mushtaq’s appointment as education minister is “totally unfair and against moral values” since he is himself an owner of a private school and has “got serious conflict of interest especially when he would be looking into public school matters.” The organisation also claimed that the standards of public sector education have “intentionally” been lowered so “people like Faisal” can earn benefits via private schools and charge huge sums of money from the parents. It further claimed that since 1984, efforts were “intentionally” made to minimise public schools and maximise private schools so to earn profits. Users on social media platforms, especially on Twitter have also opposed Faisal Mushtaq’s appointment as the minister of education. Faisal Mushtaq is the owner of Roots schools system. We strongly oppose his appointment as Minister of Education for Punjab.#PAC — Basit Alvi (@bpk69) June 15, 2018 So – the caretaker CM Mr. Hassan Askari appoints Faisal Mushtaq as Education Minister Punjab and the man is owner of a private school. Isn’t it a conflict of interest ? Punjab was the only province where merit ruled under CM Shehbaz. Please don’t ruin its system. — محمدابوبکرعمر (@abubakarumer) June 15, 2018
