LAHORE: The 500-member ‘woman parliament’ of Minhaj Women League took oath at the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran here on Sunday. Minhaj-ul-Quran Supreme Council Chairman Dr Hassan Mohiud Din administered the oath. Minhaj Women League central president Farah Naz was nominated as speaker and Afnan Babar as deputy speaker of the parliament. Woman office bearers from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pukhtunkhawa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and foreign countries participated in the ceremony. Farah Naz on the occasion said the ‘woman parliament’ will play an effective role in women empowerment, promotion of education among women and in elimination of social, economic and political discrimination. She said every member of the parliament was a master’s degree holder. She said professional women have also been given membership of the parliament. She said the platform will also play role in social and economic welfare of women and prevention of their exploitation. Later, the ‘woman parliament’ approved a resolution in which martyrs of Model Town incident Tanzila Amjad and Shazia Murtza were paid tributes for their bravery and sacrifice. They also thanked Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar for ordering daily hearing of the Model Town case. In another resolution, the platform strongly condemned firing at the residence of a Supreme Court judge and demanded strict action against elements involved in the incident.
