The heinous crime of innocent Asifa reminds me of the rape and murder of Asia-Nelofer of Shopian. Likewise, in May 2009, they were caught in the evening hours in their orchards by a group of Indian Army men and mercilessly raped — taking repeated turns even after they had given away their lost breaths. Later their faces were hitted by stones and disfigured. The only difference in the Shopian case is that it was done by the non-punitive Indian Army Jawans – ‘the Pride of Indian Nation’.
